Material should be concerned with social, political, or cultural aspects of the developing world - Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East or the former Soviet Union.
Full criteria
- Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award - for the tv or radio journalist who, in the jury's estimation has made the most outstanding contribution to reportage or analysis in this field. during the year.
- Radio Documentary Award - for an outstanding individual programme or single programme from a series.
- TV Documentary Award - for an outstanding individual programme or single programme from a series.
- Press Award - for an outstanding article or series of articles in the print media.
- New Media Award - for oustanding new media output. This could include (but is not limited to): websites, podcasts, blogs, vlogs, viral videos, maps, animations, citizen journalism, webcasts,virtual exhibitions and online photogalleries.
- Local Media Award - open to the nations and regions, and local community broadcast and print media, for content about the wider world which may also incorporate a local perspective.
- Popular Features Award - for broadcast and print media that takes issues of global significance to a mass audience away from the traditional news and documentary current affairs format .
- MDGs Award- for outstanding broadcast, print or new media coverage, within and outside the UK, which addresses directly the progress or challenges in meeting the ambitious blueprint for international development, the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
- Children's Rights Award - for broadcast and print coverage that advances the rights of children worldwide, acknowledging the perspectives of young people themselves.
- International Premiere Award - unique amongst our categories, this Award is for tv productions which have had a showing on the festival circuit or have been broadcast on a network, somewhere in the world other than in the UK. This award will recognise the highest standard of international documentary on human rights and development.
- Special Award - recognising an outstanding community media project or organisation working on the ground in the developing world.
