ONE WORLD INVITES ENTRIES FOR PRESTIGIOUS ANNUAL AWARDS

The One World Broadcasting Trust invites broadcasters, journalists and web-designers whose work covers international affairs to submit entries for this year’s One World Media Awards (8th June 2006). The ceremony, which is hosted by Channel 4’s Jon Snow, will be held at a new venue, the Porchester Hall, Bayswater, and the deadline for entries is 17th March 2006.

The One World Media Awards encourage excellence in media coverage that supports a greater understanding between developing and developed countries. The awards recognise the unique role of the media in bridging this divide, and communicating the breadth of social, political and cultural experiences of people across the world.

“The One World Media Awards are the awards the media really want to win,” said Jon Snow. “They are a unique set of awards that recognise commitment, originality and verve.”

The 11 award categories include Broadcast Journalist of the Year – last year won by Sky News’, Dominic Waghorn, the TV Documentary Award, and the Popular Features Award, sponsored by Christian Aid, for media that takes issues of global significance to a mass audience. There is also the Children’s Rights Award, sponsored by UNICEF UK and the Radio Documentary Award, sponsored by World Vision.

Other awards include the International Premiere Award, sponsored by Plan, which recognises excellence in international documentary and is open to productions broadcast outside UK terrestrial TV, the Press Award, sponsored by ActionAid, the Local Media Award sponsored by DfID, and the New Media Award. The prestigious Special Award honours an outstanding overseas community media project.
