documentary: The 12 Year Old Cocaine Smuggler
The film follows the story of a 12-year-old girl called Claudia who was caught smuggling one kilo of cocaine paste and spent a year in a Bolivian juvenile prison. While the film was being made, Evo Morales came to power adding a further dimension to this documentary.

The jury said:
“The 12 Year Old Cocaine Smuggler was a meticulously crafted film, made over seven months, beautifully shot, skilfully edited, with a terrific musical score. Both this film and the Tea Boy of Gaza (which it won the Award jointly with) took the viewer into unfamiliar territory, challenging our pre-conceptions; the films gave access to a wide range of local voices; and found ways of integrating the broader political picture into the story they told, moreover both films showed the impact of the west on the developing world.”
