Broadcast applicants should complete and sign the release clause in the entry form. This permits the Trust to allow (a) closed circuit playback for judges and persons invited by the organiser, (b) programme clips and stills to be used or copied in any reasonable way connected with the promotion of the Awards, for example for distribution to judges and for inclusion on the OneWorld tv website and (c) broadcast of three minute programme clips by selected broadcast media (free of charge) as part of an Awards highlights programme.

Criteria

Entries should be concerned with social, political, or cultural aspects of the developing world – Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East or the former Soviet States.

Entries should cover these issues in a compelling and imaginative way. Judges will be looking for material which in particular:

  • makes an impact on public opinion or government policy
  • draws attention to possible solutions
  • appeals to a wide spectrum of the UK audience through its innovation and flair
  • includes the voices and views of people in the developing world
  • demonstrates investigative, journalistic or production skills of the highest level
  • communicates how the actions of the world’s rich impacts upon the lives of the world’s poor

[not all of these criteria are required in any single entry]

Entries must have been broadcast on terrestrial, cable or satellite tv or published in a recognised publication for the first time in the UK between 18th March 2006 and 17th March 2007 and may not have been entered for a previous One World Media Award. (The International Premiere Award, MDGs Award and the Special Award have different conditions.)

The event

The dinner and ceremony will be held in London on Thursday 14th June 2007, at The Porchester Hall, Bayswater and will be hosted by Jon Snow. Catering will be provided by Passion Organic, a Soil Association accredited caterer.
