Winners of the 2007 One World Media Awards were announced at a glittering ceremony on 14th June.

''We would like to dedicate this award to the Nepali people who fought for freedom of expression and democracy, and thank them for their support through the good and bad times.”

Mohan Bista, Station Manager, Radio Sagamartha,

winner of the Special Award

The Awards evening, held at the Porchester Hall, Bayswater - was one of the most successful to date, with up to 400 leading UK film makers, broadcasters and NGOs attending. Tariq Ramadan, President of the European Muslim Network, delivered an engaging keynote speech to start the evening's line up (transcription of the speech here). Guests then enjoyed a three-course dinner prepared by Passion Organic.

The host of the evening, Jon Snow, continued the tradition of arriving at the ceremony in a highly unconventional manner, not on his bike this time, or in a helicopter, but on a skateboard, direct from presenting the Channel 4 News. Watch his dramatic journey recorded on film.

As always, there was a host of categories for television, radio, press and online media, celebrating the very best in journalistic achievement over the past year. Some notable winners included  – youngest ever Broadcast Journalist of the Year Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy who collected the award for her investigative journalism on the Unreported World series for Channel 4. Exceptionally this year the jury could not separate the two winners of the television documentary award which went to the Tea Boy of Gaza and The 12 year old Cocaine Smuggler, both from the BBC 2 strand 'This World'.
