All winners of the 2006 One World Media Awards

Winners of the 2006 One World Media Awards were announced at a highly engaging ceremony on 8th June.

It's an honour to receive a One World Media Award, and to have been included among such distinguished nominees and award winners. The strength and diversity of the work represented was truly impressive.

Andrew Blackwell (’La Sierra’, winner of International Premiere Award)

The Awards evening, held on 8th June at an elegant new venue – The Porchester Hall in Bayswater - was another highly stimulating event, with over 400 leading UK film makers, broadcasters and NGOs attending. Jeffrey Sachs, UN Special Advisor to Kofi Annan, delivered the keynote speech by video link. He drew the audience’s attention to the importance of the media in using its voice to strengthen civil society around the world and paid tribute to the film makers and broadcasters who have brought home the realities of life in the hotspots of the world. Guests then enjoyed a three-course dinner prepared by ethical caterers Passion Organic.

The host of the evening, Jon Snow, arrived in his customary precarious style, this time out of an ITN helicopter (!) straight from presenting the Channel 4 News.
As always, there was a host of categories for television, radio, press and online media, celebrating the very best in journalistic achievement over the past year. Some notable winners included Lion TV for African School which won in two categories – the newly created MDGs Award for ‘Show Me the Money’ and the Children’s Rights Award for ‘Running for Your Life’. Sorious Samura collected the award for Broadcast Journalist of the year 'Living with AIDS'.
